Robbie Williams’ mother Jan has confirmed that her son recently got engaged to girlfriend Ayda Field.
Robbie, 35, was speaking on the Australian radio station 2DayFM when he asked his US actress girlfriend Ayda to marry him, but his spokesperson then dismissed the claims as a joke.
However, his mum Jan Williams spoke to BBC Radio 5 live and said: “Yes, you caught me shopping. I’m looking for a card… a celebration card.”
Asked if it’s an engagement card she was buying, she said: “Exactly, yes.”
The presenter then asked her if she could confirm reports that Ayda and Robbie are engaged.
She said: “Oh yes. He’s been there… he’s wanted to do something different. She’s a lovely girl, I’m really pleased for them.”
She added: “I’ve got a daughter-in-law, I’ve always wanted a daughter-in-law. I’ve got a great son-in-law and now I’ve got a lovely daughter-in-law.”
Talking about her reaction, she added: “It was no surprise, no surprise at all. He’ll probably propose to her, perhaps, when he gets to Paris, he’ll do it there.”
Robbie didn’t have a ring during the Australian radio show but his mum Jan said: “Well… we don’t always have to have the ring, but there is one. Oh yes.”
Asked about a date for the wedding, she said: “I don’t think it’ll be that far… in the too distant future. That’s all I’m going to say on that.”
