Chris Evert has broken her silence after her split with golfing champion Greg Norman.

The news of the lovebirds’ marriage break-up after just 15 months left many stunned.

But Evert, a former US tennis darling, said she is “where I should be in my life right now”.

Evert said: “I’ve been through good times and bad times and have had - the press follow me around and that’s the price you pay and it’s fine. I have great kids and I’m where I want to be right now. I want to be at home being a mum - not travelling, and I’m where I should be in my life right now.”

Evert, 54, has been married three times and has three children. She split with her first husband, British tennis player John Lloyd, in 1987. In 2006, she broke up with the father of her three sons, US ski champion Andy Mill.

She continued: “I think that I realised that my life as a tennis pro was very self-absorbed, and it was all about me and it was all about what do I need to do to be number one in the world…

“It’s all about me, and that’s why after I retired and I had children, it was like, ‘Whoa, welcome back to the human race.’ I’m just like any other woman walking around with throw-up on my shoulder and changing diapers.”
